Toys

Toys

Toys play a key role in the growing process of children, as playing is a fundamental component for their development, health and wellbeing. Indeed, it represents an essential activity of childhood and contributes significantly to the cognitive, social and emotional development of the child.
The manufacture, import and marketing of counterfeit or dangerous toys has negative effects on these delicate final clients: the children. For this reason, it is advisable to choose and purchase products manufactured by law-abiding companies so that we can always give our little ones an object that is safe.
In recent years, the Guardia di Finanza has withdrawn from the market more than 240 million counterfeit or unsafe toys (see chart below).

The most alarming datum was the level of danger of the toys seized. They were mostly painted with chemicals that were either highly cancerogenic or contained heavy metals; they were assembled with easily detachable parts that could be swallowed or cause suffocation, or had sharp points or edges or long cords that could cause strangling.

Particularly significant was a recent enforcement operation conducted by the Guardia di Finanza in Trento, “Operazione Scuola Sicura”, during which 140,000 pastels were seized throughout Italy, meant  for children also in pre-school age, that were unsafe

The chimical analysis revealed that almost all the pastels were toxic, as they were covered with phtalates, which are chemicals used in the plastic material industry. The concentration was 3 times over the legal limit and could result in mental or physical deficits in the children, affecting in particular the reproductive system, as well as causing serious and permanent damage to the internal organs.
To counter in a unitary and coordinated matter this type of illicit traffic, partnerships have been formed with companies and industry associations, which have joined forces with the Institutions to combat the spread of the “counterfeits market”. Enterprises that operate legitimately are the only ones who know the “secrets” and manufacturing features of their products and markets, and so they are able to provide essential information for the purpose of protecting the authenticity of their products.
In order to protect the vulnerable children category from the dangers arising from the manufacture and assembly of toys, both the European and Italian legislation have issued compliance rules and safety requirements that must be met to avoid chemical and microbiological risks, as well as strangulation and suffocation. Compliance with the Directives and standards imposed by the European Community is summarized with the correct application of the “CE” mark.
Toys play a fundamental role in the behavioral development, as they directly affect the emotional and cognitive evolution of children and lay the foundations for a serene adult life.
We are tasked with the responsibility to immunize them from the dangerous disease of counterfeiting!
